On February 21, 2026, the Albany Community Centre on Auckland’s North Shore was filled with the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year. Daren Life Society and Albany Community Hub once again joined forces to create a New Year’s journey that combined culture, food, and entertainment , bringing a rich and diverse experience to community residents.
At the event, lion dances were lively and energetic, and the stage performances were spectacular. In addition to traditional ethnic dances and martial arts performances, there were also energetic taekwondo demonstrations, dynamic K-pop dances, and unique Sri Lankan dances, all of which won rounds of applause from the audience. Craftsmen made dragon beard candy on site, attracting children to gather around and taste it, their faces beaming with sweet smiles.
During the event, the Daren Life Society set up a calligraphy and cultural Stall. Volunteers demonstrated their skills on-site, writing Spring Festival couplets and the character “福” (Fu, meaning good fortune), sending blessings to passing residents. The booth was bustling with people, all eager to receive this New Year’s gift filled with the fragrance of ink. Many individuals enthusiastically signed up to join the volunteer team, jointly practicing the concept of “mutual help.”
In addition, there were various food stalls and cultural displays on site, allowing people to enjoy delicious food while experiencing the charm of traditional culture. Volunteers moved among the crowds, guiding people and taking photos, warming every corner with their enthusiastic service.
The success of this event wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various community groups and volunteers, showcasing the power of human warmth. Everyone worked together to create a joyous and festive Spring Festival gathering. The event not only enriched daily life in the community but also allowed culture to flourish.
