Browns Bay in autumn is drenched in the fragrance of ink and laughter. On 16th March, Daren Life Society Inc. brought two traditional projects, calligraphy demonstration and handmade paper-cutting, to unveil a flowing cultural scroll for children from different countries.
Encounters in the Ink Marks
Volunteers waved their brushes on the rice paper, each brush stroke condensing the cultural heritage. In front of the calligraphy booth, many people were leaning over to take a closer look at the undried rice paper, and from time to time, some people exclaimed, “This line is so smooth!” “This is what a refined character!”
Every stroke in Chinese is a dialog between calligraphy and humanity, history and modernity. This is not only art, but also a way of life, attracting children to come to the calligraphy experience and feel the fun of writing with a brush.
Children’s innocence under paper-cutting
Paper-cutting area came from the tender laughter, colorful paper in the hands of the children to turn and fold, in a short while, into a unique shape of the graphics. “Look, I cut the Christmas tree!” Children have used paper-cutting to express the specific language of the childish world. Between the opening and closing of the scissors, novel patterns and traditional craftsmanship are quietly sprouting inside.
Words in the waves
Those with name pads whose ink has not yet dried exchange stories at the table. From a pair of words to a discussion of technique to an expression of emotion, the artwork became a medium for people to talk together and build deep links. The sound of the waves in Browns Bay was intertwined with conversations in different languages, like the natural mingling of tides amongst the sand and rocks.
This event is not only to appreciate the charm of traditional culture, but also to enjoy the beauty of art in life. The warmth of those shuttling between the ink stone and colored paper gave life to every word and transformed every piece of cardboard into a blessing.
